Chester, England, United Kingdom

The product of a virgin birth, this baby komodo dragon is one of five hatchlings that made their appearance at the Chester Zoo in England this week.

Their mother, Flora, never had a mate and instead reproduced asexually (Read "Virgin Birth Expected at Christmas—By Komodo Dragon" [December 2006].)

This marked the second recorded incidence of asexual reproduction in a female komodo dragon, the other having taken place in April 2006 at the London Zoo.

Two more of Flora's eggs have yet to hatch.

Budapest, Hungary

A southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) born in Hungary's Budapest Zoo this week first rhino conceived by artificial insemination. Natural breeding could not occur at the zoo, because the zoo's existing rhinos were brother and sister.

After years of conservation efforts, the southern white rhinoceros is currently the most populous of rhino subspecies. However, its numbers are still slim and most live in zoos or protected areas.

Peru

The size of a squrriel but more closely related to the spiny rat, a new nocturnal rodent was recently discovered in the cloud forests of Peru.

The Field Museum in Chicago released news of Isothrix barbarabrownae, originally found in 1999, on January 24, 2007. The rodent's distinctive look includes long, dense fur, a blocky head, and a thickly furred tail.

Scientists are intrigued by the possibility that this species may shed new light on the evolution of an entire group of tree-dwelling rodents. The closest relatives of I. barbarabrownae are found in South America's lowlands, while the new rodent was found high above at an altitude of 6,200 feet (1,889 meters).

Even though they underperformed, but was super touched by their fighting spirit when they finished TEN ROUNDS OF SUICIDES! Somehow, I was so touched that I teared:x YOU GUYS MADE ME FEEL SO FREAKING MOTIVATED! Jiahao fell down. Fyona saw. She told me she likes blood. Lol. Kinda freaked out. KINDA. I MUST JIAYOU FOR BBALL! I feel so inferior to my so called "juniors". ):
